Bonjour, je m'appelle Connie.

I became friends with WinterKids after meeting James at their Indie Go Go club night in Guildford a couple of years ago. My services to the band include joining them on their legendary tours to Germany, where in the evenings I am found perched on the merch stand, selling t shirts and vinyl to the fans over there.

This week I am going to guest blog, providing you with coverage on the exciting events of Hannah's birthday suprise.

On October 20th Hannah will be 21, so James orgainsed a night out last Thursday with all of her friends to celebrate.

The band drove up to London in Big Blue, keeping secrets about what she would be doing that evening and that all of her friends would soon be gathered in East London to suprise her. After meeting in the Salmon & Ball pub, we walked down to the Working Men's Club, a cosy retro place in Bethnal Green. Hannah's a fan of Dita Von Teese, so James booked us three tables at the Whisky & Ginger Burlesque Show.


We arrived, got stamped and got drinks, then settled ourselves round to wait for the show. Whisky & Ginger was the drink of the night, along with the champagne supplied by James.

The show had a hilairious host and over the next few hours we saw burlesque performances from secretaries, a school boy, fifties pin up girls, a doctor and his brother and a sparkly lupine creature. The show was full of feathers, glitter and bubbles with plenty of falling skirts and bra straps. The boys loved it, and as for the girls, well, we're now researching burlesque lessons.

Towards the end, Hannah was called up to the stage where she was seranaded by the host then presented with a birthday present from the club, a classic pair of red, sequined nipple tassles.

For afters, we stopped at the Brick Lane Beigel Bakery before heading up to a little pub in Whitechapel. A few drinks later, we all parted ways, and I joined the band on the satisfied, sleepy journey back inBig Blue to Little House.

A month or so ago one of our friends shot a music video for us.

We wanted to give the video a DIY feel so we managed to cut costs down to just £300. We shot the video in the Peaslake Village Hall and covered the place in brown paper ; all of the coloured boxes you see in the video were hand painted using our marvolous artistic skills.

Hectic

Hello Everyone

Sorry for the lateness in this blog.  The weekend was a hectec one.  Hannah and Chris are getting married early next year, so we have been sorting out invitations.  

Wedding invitations are really expensive apparently, so Hannah decided it would be a good idea to hand make them all.  Nice idea...but when each invite is specially wrapped in a hand made gift box containing all sorts of random bits (like french sweets, hand made heart cushions stuffed with lavender, luggage tags etc etc) and all of which 'HAD' to be perfectly positioned, it can take a bit of time to put together.  So there we were, sitting around a table all weekend putting together wedding invitations.

If this music thing doesn't work out, I think we'll start a wedding invitation business...

(btw, they are getting married in france, hence the reference to french sweets and luggage tags)

Talking of the wedding, i've stupidly volunteered to bake the wedding cake.  Ok, embarrassingly my one and only 'A' at GCSE exams in school was in cooking, but I think I'm probably going to fuck up.  Ah well. 

(this is the worlds largest wedding cake.  that could be fun - i'll try beat the record...)

Something to do...

Hi its Chris here!

I thought I'd give you something to do for the weekend just in case you have time to kill (and your hungry)...

You may have seen on our video blogs that I love cooking. And eating.
A while ago James and I got very addicted to a particular recipe for peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies. We made these cookies 2-3 times a week. It turned into an obsession. We had to go cold turkey for 2 weeks to stop ourselves from exploding.
Heres how to make the BEST EVER peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies in the world.


Ingredients
½ cup butter or margarine softened
¾ cup sugar
1/3 cup smooth Peanut Butter
1 egg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1-¼ cups plain flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup Cadburys Bourneville Dark Chocolate, broken into chunks

Directions
1. Heat oven to 350 F
2. Beat butter, sugar and peanut butter in medium bowl until creamy. Add egg and vanilla, beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt, add to butter mixture, blending well. Stir in dark chocolate chunks. Drop rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 12-14 minutes or until light golden brown around the edges. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet. Remove to wire rack, cool completely or serve warm with ice cream.

A Fish Called Ponder

Hello everyone, Brad here!

This week I have been pondering to myself.

There are a number of deep and philosophical questions I wanted answered, so I felt compelled enough to do some research and share with you what I have found.

My first ponder

Being in WinterKids, I was thinking about the birth of the CD. I wondered what the first song ever pressed onto this format was.

The answer: The first CD ever pressed was in the US, and it was Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA."

My second ponder

I was walking through town the other day and happened to notice a Motorola advertisement.

I thought to myself ‘I wonder where they got that name from’.

The answer: The first product Motorola started to develop was a record player for automobiles. At the time, the most known record player on the market was called the 'Victrola'...so they called themselves Motorola!

My third ponder

For those of you who aren't aware, Chris (drummer) and Hannah (organ/vocals) are going to be getting married next year. This got me thinking about he word ‘honeymoon’.

What does it actually mean?

The answer: It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.

Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the "honeymoon".

My fourth ponder

When touring in Germany a couple of weeks ago with the band, I noticed several statue’s of soldiers on horses in parks.

One horse had both legs in the air, whereas another had just one leg in the air. This made me think ‘do the legs mean anything?'

The answer: If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air the person died as a result of wounds received in battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

My fifth and final ponder
Birthdays; whenever its someone’s birthday, they usually receive a rendition of the classic ‘happy birthday’ song from friends and family.

Well this got me thinking ‘does that song have a copyright or is it owned by the public?’

The answer: The company, Warner Communications actually paid $28 million for the copyright to the song "Happy Birthday".
